Founded in 1974- by brothers John and Noel McGivern- Killowen Contracts Ltd. is a family run business based in Burren, Co. Down. They work all over Ireland and within the U.K.- providing diverse construction projections in both the public and private sectors- and have expanded significantly over the years. Now directors Brian McGivern, Maurice McGivern, Damien McGivern and Andrew Knapton are supported by a motivated team of experts, who pride themselves on their reputation for achieving the highest standards of construction.
With projects varying from large multi-million pound commercial projects and maintenance contracts with healthcare trusts, through to renovation projects and private residential houses- their aim is to always provide a quality product on time and within budget. Their third party integrated management systems- ISO 9001 for Quality, ISO 14001 for Environment and ISO 18001 for Health and Safety- ensures that the firm’s policies are continually monitored and assessed to guarantee continual improvement, as that is what Killowen Contracts Ltd. are all about. Also recognising that their activities have an impact on the environment- the team strive to achieve continual environmental improvement, particularly in relation to waste reduction and energy consumption.
“We offer a one to one service that is high quality and efficient,” Company Director, Andrew Knapton explained. “We aim to give the clients what they want and really listen to what they have to say. There is no other way to get it right, and there is no other way of doing it, as at the end of the day, the client is the priority. It’s very important that they are happy with the work that we have done.”
Luckily enough, most of Killowen Contracts Ltd. business is repeat business- which highlights the strong working relationships that they have built up with their clients. And the key to this success is that every project that Killowen Contracts Ltd. undertakes, involves the production of a detailed programme and methodology for each new brief, and the company’s Directors holding regular site co-ordination meetings between respective sub-contractors and suppliers. This leaves no room for mistakes and creates a natural environment for ideas and solutions to be nurtured.
And having recently been awarded the Investors In People Award, Killowen Contracts Ltd. have secured their place at the forefront of modern construction. They are now currently working on a number of projects and focusing on broadening their skillset, whilst utilising the skills that they already have to embellish each brief.
“We are very busy at the moment- which shows that we are doing something right,” Andrew said. “The team has been working together for a very long time now and there is a lot of trust there, which clients can pick up on. You can tell that we know are way around a construction site, and that we are committed to helping- because we are. We want each project to run as smoothly as it can.”
